The General Situation of QingPu ShiYan Primary School
Founded in 1908 with more than 100 years’ history, Shiyan Primary School is a five-year public school with more than 1,460 students, 101 staff, which is located in the western suburbs of Shanghai. The average age of the teachers is 36 years old. Among these teachers, the ratio of men to women is 3 to 7, and more than 62 percent of them has bachelor degree or above. The District-level or school-level famous excellent teachers account for 30 percent. With complete facilities and clean and beautiful environment, the school is now an experimental school for quality education and a base for the reform of new curriculum of Shanghai. It is the only Class A model school among the primary schools in Qingpu.
With the aim of “all for the healthy growth of students”, Shiyan Primary School carries on the “student centered, morality first, learning focused and develop harmoniously” as the school running philosophy. The school educates the students: “be honest, be the best”; the teachers believes the way of teaching: “to educate with love, to teach with wisdom” and the students cultivate their effective ways of learning: “ be earnest to learn, be eager to learn, be happy to learn and to learn broadly”. School pays a lot of attention on the different education aspects, such as moral education, psycological education, practical ability, creative ability, and so on. In order to improve the education quality, we use different social resources, like family-based education, community education, and so on. The school offers 11 courses, such as Chinese, math, English, moral education, science, music, P.E., art, etc. The school also sets up more than 30 interest activity groups and students society.
In recent years, the school has got a lot of achievements, and the compliment from the parents and communities. It has been honored with over 100 honorary titles of district-level or above, for instance, “Municipal Model Unit”, “Municipal Advanced Collective in Moral Education”, and “Municipal Model School in Students’ Behavior”, etc.
